Children’s Liturgy of the Word — Following the Opening Prayer during Mass, children in Pre-K through fourth grade are invited to go forth to listen to God’s Word in language more easily understood by them.  Trained leaders reflect on the Word and lead the children in presenting their prayers to God.  Children return to the assembly as the gifts are being gathered.

Elementary Faith Formation Program (Grades K-6) — It is through a blending of family, classroom, and whole community that the richness of our Catholic faith is passed on to our children.  Through faith education, prayer experiences, and group gatherings, parish children meet to learn more about their Catholic faith and how to live out their Baptismal call. Sessions are lead by trained Catechists.

Middle School Faith Formation Program (Grades 7-8) — This program is designed to empower young people to live as disciples of Jesus Christ in our world today by meeting  the educational, spiritual, emotional, and social needs of young adolescents.  Participation in the life, work and mission of the Catholic faith community is focused upon.  Preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation, to be completed in the 8th grade, is incorporated.

High School Youth Ministry — The goal of the youth group is to help the teens of St. James grow in their love of Jesus Christ and become more faithful disciples of the Lord.  Discussions take place about our Catholic Faith, how God works in our lives and what it means to follow Jesus in today’s world.  High School students are encouraged to share their gifts with our community through participation in various ministries.  The youth are also involved in many fundraising projects allowing them the opportunity to attend Catholic HEART Workcamp, which involves working on homes of the needy.  Attendance at this camp takes place in July and is held at various locations throughout the country.  Parental involvement with this group is needed and encouraged.

Catechist — A confirmed, active, Catholic Christian, who shares his or her faith with the children of our parish.  Training, lesson plans, and other resources are provided.  Catechists continue to develop their own faith journey by attending workshops and pursuing and achieving Catechist Certification from the Diocese of Grand Rapids.

Adult Scripture Study — Adults gather to deepen their knowledge and understanding of their faith by reading, sharing, and responding to selected Bible themes in a setting that builds Catholic Christian fellowship.
