PARISH FAMILY NIGHT 2016: Please consider coming out Sunday the 19th, from 5 -7 pm for the kickoff of our Season 2016 opening.  Enjoy a friendly afternoon at the pit with friends and family.  There is volleyball and several other games available, plus any other game anyone wants to bring and organize.  Or, simply sit back and enjoy the fellowship and activities of the kids in the sandbox, and so much more.  There are picnic tables, grills and a weekly potluck. We ask all families attending to please bring a dish to pass.  The church provides hotdogs, but there is plenty of grill space available if you would like to cook something different.  It’s a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon and we hope to see many of you join us this season.  Plus, Father Peter is looking for some volleyball competition.  Got to warn you, he’s actually pretty good…

Prayer for Iraq

Bishop David Walkowiak, asks that Catholics throughout our diocese of Grand Rapids pray this prayer frequently on behalf of Christians throughout Iraq.  Thousands of Christians have fled their homes in recent weeks rather than convert to the extremist brand of Islam imposed upon them by the Islamic State (ISIS).

Lord,
The plight of our country is deep and the suffering of Christians is severe and frightening.
Therefore, we ask you Lord to spare our lives, and to grant us patience,
and courage to continue our witness of Christian values with trust and hope.
Lord, peace is the foundation of life;
Grant us the peace and stability that will enable us to live with each other without fear and anxiety, and with dignity and joy.
Glory be to you forever.
Amen

Bulletin Announcement:

An ad-hoc committee consisting of members from the Finance and Pastoral Councils and parishioners at-large, at Fr. Peter’s request, recently initiated a project to further enhance both the spiritual and operational aspects our Parish. Fr. Peter feels it is important that our Parish have a mindset for continual improvement and this project should help accomplish this objective.

Best Practices are regularly created and documented by many business, non-profit, governmental, religious and other types of organizations worldwide to define what optimal performance would be for their organization. Once the Best Practices are defined then an organization aspires to implement all of the Best Practices over a period of time.  Best Practices not only help organizations improve, they also assist in having everyone working together in unity to meet the newly defined vision.

Much work has been performed to create Best Practices for our Parish. The majority of the input for the Best Practices came from Diocesan publications. In addition, a comprehensive research of various church/parish Best Practices was also performed with additional items being included. Finally both the Finance and Pastoral Councils provided their thoughts and these were incorporated into our vision. Of course the newly defined Best Practices for our Parish were sent to the Diocese for their review and feedback.

The Best Practices document is available on the parish website and hard copies may be picked up in the office.

Going forward our Parish will strive to implement as many as the Best Practices as possible. If any of you have suggestions/ideas related to our newly defined Best Practices please bring them forward to any members of the committee, or the Finance or Pastoral Councils. All are open to discussing new items or suggested changes.

Thank you,

Best Practices Committee
